Sharon DeGeare Schmidt Placht, 77, of St. Louis died Jan. 10, 2022, at her home. Mrs. Placht worked several jobs over the years and was a member of the Catholic faith. She enjoyed plants and flowers, watching and feeding birds and squirrels, watching Hallmark movies, doing puzzles and spending time with her family. Born Feb. 21, 1944, in St. Louis, she was the daughter of the late Vivian (Esch) and Andrew DeGeare.
She is survived by her husband: Clarence Placht; two sons: Richard (Sharon) Schmidt of St. Louis and Steven (Ann) Schmidt of Sweden; two stepdaughters: Christa (Mike) Amick of Arnold and Cindy (Jimmy) Nestor of Fenton; three brothers: Paul (Joy) DeGeare of Arnold, Richard (the late Fran) DeGeare of Festus and David (Melody) DeGeare of Maryland Heights; three sisters: Donna (Claude) Keathley of Crystal City, Phyllis Polk of Crystal City and Margaret (Bill) Weibking of Festus; a brother-in-law: Dennis (Debbie) Warden of Hematite; a sister-in-law: Sandra Hayes of St. Louis; 11 grandchildren: Dean Schmidt, Luke Schmidt, Natalie Schmidt, Alexandra Schmidt, Mathilde Schmidt, Elliot Schmidt, Alex Nestor, Jenna Nestor, Ryan Placht, Will Pinegar and Jacob Neely; one great-grandson: Ethan Placht; and special friends Jennifer and Bo Pinegar, Patty and Mark Wilson and Kathy Mize. She was preceded in death by a sister: Beverly Warden; a brother-in-law: Claude Keathley; a sister-in-law: Fran DeGeare; and her parents-in-law: Amelia and Clarence Placht Sr.
A celebration of life gathering is scheduled from 4-7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 21, at Kutis Funeral Home, 10151 Gravois Road, in Affton. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 22, at St. Justin the Martyr Church, 11910 Eddie and Park Road, in St. Louis County. Arrangements are under the direction of Kutis Funeral Home.
