Saundra “Sandy” Hord, 80, of House Springs died Dec. 29, 2020. Mrs. Hord was an ordained minister as well as a member of a prayer chain. She enjoyed being a wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother more than anything. Born Aug. 25, 1940, in Elmo, Ind., she was the daughter of the late Hobart and Mildred (Roberts) Melvin. She was preceded in death by her husband: Andy Hord.

She is survived by three children: Mickie (Jim) Gordon of Arnold, Angie Kay (Bud) Strauser of Cedar Hill and Tammie (Chris) Baker of House Springs; a sister: Carol LaCava of House Springs; nine grandchildren: Buddy (Shannon) Strauser, Jamie (Jason) Cearlock, Chad (Jane) Strauser, Andrew (Kristi) Gordon, Mark Wallace, Elisha Wallace, Zack Strauser, Karissa (Josh) Baker and Alexa Baker; 14 great-grandchildren: Natalie, Carter, Elizabeth, Hunter, Max, Brody, Chase, Alexandria, Olivia, Brooke, Rhys, Noah, Cole and Oliver; and many other family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by a brother: Hobart Melvin Jr.; and a brother-in-law: Leo LaCava.

Visitation is from noon until a funeral service at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 3, at Chapel Hill Mortuary, 6300 Hwy. 30, in Cedar Hill. Burial will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 9370 Olive Blvd., St. Louis, 63132-3253. Arrangements are under the direction of Chapel Hill Mortuary.
