Sara “Sally” (Thompson) Borgerson, 74, Jefferson County

Sara “Sally” (Thompson) Borgerson, 74, of Jefferson County died on May 3, 2021. She grew up on her family’s farm in Saline County, and in 1968, she earned a bachelor's degree in education from the University of Missouri. In 1972, she earned a master's degree in French literature from the Sorbonne University in Paris, and in 2005, she earned another master’s degree in Spanish from St. Louis University and the Universidad Iberoamericana in Mexico City. She taught French and Spanish for 48 years at various schools, including St. Pius X High School in Crystal City, DeSoto High School and Jefferson College in Hillsboro, where she also served as associate dean of arts and sciences.

She received many accolades, including the Missouri Governor's Award for Excellence in Teaching, and she will be remembered as a caring and gifted teacher. She was a cultural ambassador who organized ethnic festivals, hosted exchange students and advised historical societies. She also was a dedicated volunteer and a member of Grace Presbyterian Church in Crystal City for 43 years, where she taught Sunday School, served as an elder and sang in the choir. She was active in the PEO sisterhood and the Daughters of the American Revolution and helped organize an annual Jefferson County Veteran's Day dinner to honor local service members.

She enjoyed reading, cooking and jazz music. She was a master bridge player. She will be remembered for her independence, positive attitude and grace, as well as her willingness to help others.

Born November 16, 1946, in Marshall, she was the daughter of the late Joe and Betty (Carter) Thompson.

She is survived by two children, five grandchildren and many other family members and friends.

Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. until a memorial service at 6 p.m. Friday (May 7) at Grace Presbyterian Church, 105 Bailey Road, in Crystal City.
