Samuel James Lee “Sam” Brooks, 84, of Hillsboro died April 29, 2020, in St. Louis County. Mr. Brooks was self-employed and owned Brooks Tuckpointing. He was a 50-plus-year member and longtime deacon at First Baptist Church of Hillsboro. Born Oct. 26, 1935, in Goodland, he was the son of the late Ernest and Lola (Trolinger) Brooks.
He is survived by his wife: Geraldine Rae “Gerry” (Stack) Brooks, whom he married on June 29, 1957, in St. Louis; three sons: Timothy James Brooks of Hillsboro, Craig Michael (Ann) Brooks of Festus and Brian Jay Brooks of Hillsboro; four grandchildren: Morgan Anna (Dillon) Smith of De Soto, Jacob Matthew Brooks of Festus, Alexander Michael (Cassi) Brooks of Hillsboro and Cory Aaron Brooks of Festus; five great-grandchildren: Trenton, Autumn and Logan Smith and Elijah and Josiah Brooks; a brother: Bill (Judy) Brooks; a sister-in-law: Melba Brooks; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by four sisters: Geraldine Strutton, Vivian Gallagher, Shirley Neill and an infant sister; and three brothers: Kenneth, Howard and Raymond Brooks.
Visitation is scheduled from 4-8 p.m. Monday, May 4, at Robert D. Brown Funeral Home, 103 Fourth St., in Hillsboro, following social distancing guidelines. A funeral service will be private, followed by private burial in the Hillsboro Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Hillsboro. Arrangements are under the direction of Robert D. Brown Funeral Home.
