Russell “Joe” Sparks, 80, of De Soto died March 30, 2021, at his home. Mr. Sparks served in the Missouri National Guard. He worked as a truck driver for more than 40 years, 30 of those years being with Diamond Transportation. He enjoyed watching television, particularly Wheel of Fortune, and social networking on Facebook. He was born Nov. 3, 1940, in Fletcher, the son of the late Fred and Verna (Torrence) Sparks.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years: Betty Ann (Recar) Sparks, whom he married July 12, 1968, in De Soto; a daughter: Cassandra (Eric Smith) Sparks of Arnold; two grandchildren: Jeremy Russell Sparks of Fenton and Connor Joe Sparks of Arnold; and numerous other relatives and many dear friends.
He was preceded in death by a brother: Fred Sparks; and two sisters: Rita Farhnam and Jackie McAnally.
In accordance with Mr. Sparks’ wishes, there will be no formal services. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society. Arrangements are under the direction of Mahn Funeral Home in De Soto.
