Evans, Roy

Roy D. Evans II, 62, of Pevely, formerly of Jackson, died March 24, 2023, at Mercy Hospital Jefferson in Crystal City. Mr. Evans grew up in Cahokia where he played football and met his lifelong friend, Gary "Dean" Grossman. After his family relocated to Mehlville, he excelled in high school football and graduated from Mehlville High School with another longtime friend, Kenneth "Kenny" Glore. He served in the U.S. Army from Jan. 26, 1982, to Jan. 25, 1985.  He was a telecommunications specialist and was stationed in Germany for more than 18 months. Back in the states, he went into the painting business with Gerald Neal, then owned and operated RDE Custom Painting in St. Peters and Jackson for more than 35 years. He lived for 12 years in Springville, Tenn., on Kentucky Lake, where he was a member of American Legion Post 89 and a charter member of the riders club, enjoying riding his Harley-Davidson, hunting and fishing with friends and family. In 2020, the family moved to Pevely, and he got on at Jefferson Barracks Veteran’s Hospital, where he was recognized by patients and staff for his excellent work. Born April 10, 1960, in Alameda, Calif., he was the son of Roy D. Evans Sr. of Jackson and the late Betty J. Biri Evans. 

In addition to his father, he is survived by his wife of 21 years: Lisa Evans, whom he met by chance at a birthday party in Cape Girardeau and married in 2001 at the Pinnelas County Courthouse in Clearwater, Fla.;  three daughters: Krista (John) Indelicato of St. Louis, Julie (Rob) Lemond of Hillsboro and Bethany (Dajohn) Peters of Bettendorf, Iowa; eight grandchildren: Mia and Giovanni Indelicato of St. Louis, Ashley and Aidan Lemond of Hillsboro and Daegus, Draezen, Daelon, and Daenerys of Bettendorf; a brother: Dennis (Tonya) Evans of Hillsboro; three nephews: Dennis “Ryan,” Douglas and Alexander; his mother-in-law: Beverly (the late William “Bud”) McHarry of Thebes, Ill.; a sister-in-law: Mandy McHarry Schnepper of Effingham, Ill; and numerous other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by a brother-in-law: Keith McHarry.

Visitation will be held from 11:30 a.m. until a memorial service with military honors at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, April 1, at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 640 W. Independence St., in Jackson, officiated by the Rev. Henry Miller. Burial will be in Fairmount Cemetery in Cape Girardeau. Memorials may be made to Tunnel to Towers, to the American Cancer Society or to a veterans charity of the donor’s choice. Arrangements are under the direction of McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center.
