Robert W. Legens Sr., 71, of Herculaneum died Sept. 20, 2017, at Mercy Hospital Jefferson in Crystal City. Mr. Legens, a veteran of the U.S. Army, was a retired heavy equipment operator with the 220th Engineering Co. of the Missouri National Guard.
Born Jan. 5, 1946, in St. Louis, he was the son of the late Dorothy Marie (Huskey) Cowan and James William “Bill” Legens.
He is survived by his wife: Cindy (Parker) Legens; a daughter: Lisa Legens of Pevely; four sons: Robert W. (Debbie) Legens Jr. of St. Louis, Thomas (Angela) Legens of Seymour, Shawn Legens of Crystal City and Jason Legens of Columbia, Ill.; five brothers: Michael (Nancy) Cowan of Imperial, John (Renee) Legens of St. Louis, Mike Legens of Imperial, Chris (Sarah) Legens of Imperial and Norman (Arlene) Legens of Arnold; and 11 grandchildren: Timothy Legens, Melissa Legens, Norman Dobbs, Angie Crull, Katelyn Legens, Isabella Legens, Austin Legens, Genna Legens, Nathen Legens, Grant Legens and Jordyn Legens.
He was preceded in death by his stepfather: Elmer “Dale” Cowan; and two brothers: James Legens and Craig Legens.
Visitation is scheduled from 2-6 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 24, at Vinyard Hillcrest Funeral Home, 9115 Commercial Blvd. in Pevely. A funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 25, at the funeral home, the Rev. James Waymire officiating. Burial with full military honors will be in the National Cemetery at Jefferson Barracks. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association. Arrangements are under the direction of Vinyard Funeral Home.
