Richard E. Gonzales, 68, Festus

Richard E. Gonzales, 68, of Festus died May 31, 2021, in Festus. Mr. Gonzales served in and retired from the U.S. Army. He was a member of Knights of Columbus 1185 in De Soto and Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Hillsboro. Born Feb. 10, 1953, in Fowler, Colo., he was the son of Donaciana (Padilla) Gonzales of Denver, Colo., and the late Adrian Gonzales.

He is survived by his wife: Diane Marie (Schlett) Gonzales of Festus; three children: Jennie Gonzales of Denver, Colo., Jason Gonzales of St. Louis and Adrian (Tommie Jo) Gonzales of Hillsboro; eight siblings: Pauline (the late Louise) Cruz of Denver, Andrew (the late Paula) Gonzales of Denver, Lorraine Gonzales of Denver, Norman (Traci) Gonzales of Denver, Gary (Pam) Gonzales of Denver, Albert (Marialena) Gonzales of Denver, Colo., Kathy (Leroy) Garcia of Denver, Colo., Lloyd (Louise) Gonzales of Denver; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Karen (Daniel) Wood of De Soto, Michael (Sandie) Schlett of Biloxi, Miss., Mary Ann (the late David) Blum of De Soto, Jeannie (Don) Goff of De Soto, William “Bill” (Crezilda) Schlett of Rineyville, Ky., Sara (Heath) Allison of Festus, Jeff Schlett of Herculaneum, Glenda Schlett of Festus, Juanita (Tom) Kindred of Birmingham, Ala., Brad Schlett of De Soto, Sasha Schlett of St. Louis, Shirley Schlett of St. Peters, Andrea Schlett of House Springs and Leona (Tony) Antoine of St. Charles; five grandchildren: Landon, Macie and Ryan Gonzales, and Rebecca and Olivia Bonsell; and many other family members and friends.

He also was preceded in death by a brother: Jimmy Gonzales; and a sister-in-law: Joyce Schlett.

A funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Friday (June 11) at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, 504 S. Third St, in De Soto, officiated by Father Alexander Anderson. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in De Soto. Memorials may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758516, Topeka, KS 66675-8516. Arrangements are under the direction of Dietrich-Mothershead Funeral Home in De Soto.
