Burton, Richard

Richard Burton, 77, of Byrnes Mill died Sept. 28, 2020. Mr. Burton was employed with  Chrysler. He was elected president of United Auto Workers Local 136 and later appointed to United Auto Workers International staff, retiring in 1996 as an International representative. He enjoyed antiquing, woodworking, golfing, hunting and spending time with family. Born Oct. 16, 1942, he was the son of the late William and Juanita (Tossier) Burton.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years: Peggy (Litchfield) Burton; two daughters: Tammy (Ronald) Hauser of Cedar Hill and Andrea (Christie) Burton of St. Louis; four grandchildren: Laura (Arik) Brooks, Dean Hauser, Tyler Henson and Brice Burton; four great-grandchildren: Lindsey, Ashley, Tyler and Delilah Brooks; eight siblings: Rodney (Brenda) Burton, Bert Ann (Ron) Smith, Roger (Mary Ann) Burton, Nancy Klemp, Sue (Stan) Denninger, Sally (Jim) Putman, Donna Heberlie and Al (Kelly) Heberlie; and numerous other family members.

He was preceded in death by a great-granddaughter: Eva Noelle Brooks; a brother: Joseph Burton; a nephew: Rodney Carl Burton; and a brother and sister-in-law: Bill and Sue Litchfield.

Visitation is scheduled 4-8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 1, at Chapel Hill Mortuary, 6300 Hwy. 30, in Cedar Hill. A funeral service will take place at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 2, at the funeral home, followed by burial in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Arrangements are under the direction of Chapel Hill Mortuary.
