Richard Alan “Dick” Bardon, 80, of High Ridge died Nov. 28, 2020. Mr. Bardon earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees at Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau, where he was a member of the Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity. While in college, he worked on the Mercury project for McDonnell Douglas. He started his career in education as an industrial arts teacher in Crystal City, where he met and married his wife. Then, he taught at the Affton School District, retiring in 1995 as head of the Industrial Arts Department. He designed and built his own home in seven months in 1970 while working a full-time job and teaching night classes. He was a lifetime member of the National Education Association and a member of the Knights of Columbus and the St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in High Ridge. He also was a past director of the Vintage Chevrolet Car Club and past president of the Show Me Car Club. He collected antique cars and radios. He also enjoyed building furniture for friends and family. Born Jan. 26, 1940, in St. Louis, he was the son of the late Richard George and Barbara (Mathias) Bardon.
He is survived by his wife: Carol (Abernathy) Bardon of High Ridge; a son: Richard William (Susan) Bardon of High Ridge; a grandson: Richard David Bardon; two siblings: Thomas (Donna) Bardon of Edwardsville, Ill., and Patricia Plummer of Ballwin; nieces and nephews; and many other family and friends.
He also was preceded in death by a brother-in-law: Charles Plummer.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday (Dec. 10) at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, 3009 High Ridge Blvd., in High Ridge. Memorials may be made to the St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church Food Pantry; the American Cancer Society, 4207 Lindell Blvd., St. Louis, 63108; or the Alzheimer’s Association, 9370 Olive Blvd., St. Louis, 63132. Arrangements are under the direction of Chapel Hill Mortuary in Cedar Hill.
