Peter Sering Shinn, 82, of Dittmer, died on May 8, 2026, at his home in Robertsville. Mr. Shinn loved the outdoors and spent many summers during his childhood on the family houseboat. He began sailing and fishing at a young age and could often be found on his boat. He served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Wasp CV-18. He eventually traded his boats for tractors and lawnmowers. He was a collector of many treasures including a vast record collection. He enjoyed taking interesting pieces of wood and creating furniture out of it. He was an AA member who would do anything for someone in need. He had a special love for his cat, Leggo. Born March 13, 1944, in Princeton, New Jersey, he was the son of the late Wilbert and Alice (Thompson) Shinn. He was preceded in death by his wife: Jane Shinn.
He is survived by two children: Rebecca (John) Vago and Daniel (Jayne) Shinn; grandchildren: Miles Vago, Elliott and Riley Shinn; and a sister: Melissa Shinn.
He also was preceded in death by a sister: Pamela Wooley.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Chapel Hill Mortuary and Memorial Gardens in Cedar Hill.
