Wehner, Paul

Paul Joseph Wehner, 92, of Festus died Jan. 1, 2017, at Festus Manor Nursing Center. Mr. Wehner was a retired custodian with the Festus R-6 School District and had also worked at PPG Industries in Crystal City and United Nuclear in Hematite. He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Navy and a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Crystal City and the Festus-Crystal City Conservation Club. Born Sept. 11, 1924, in Festus, he was the son of the late Cora (Kiefer) and Frank Wehner.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years: Louise M. (Davis) Wehner; two sons: David (Pat) Wehner of Eureka and Michael (Darlene) Wehner of Festus; a daughter: Donna (Ron) Schneider of Arnold; seven grandchildren: Maggie (Heith) Chandler, Samantha Wehner, Jared (Amanda) Wehner, Jacob Wehner, Caitlyn Wehner, Kelly (Steve) Winkeler and Brett Schneider; and seven great-grandchildren: Bryan, Abby, Clark and Danica Chandler, Mackinzey Wehner, Brinley Wehner and Byron Winkeler.

He was preceded in death by two sisters: Lucille (the late Jesse) LaRose and Elinore (the late Phillip) Miller; and two infant brothers: Robert and Frank Wehner.

Visitation is scheduled from 3-7 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 8, at Vinyard Funeral Home, 616 W. Main, in Festus. Visitation is at 10 a.m. and a funeral service at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 9, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Crystal City, the Rev. Kyle Castens and the Rev. Jarold Rux officiating. Burial with full military honors is in Rose Lawn Memorial Gardens in Crystal City.  Memorials may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church Daycare. Arrangements are under the direction of Vinyard Funeral Home.
