The Medical Examiner’s Office has identified Benjamin Bourbon, 50, of the De Soto area as the man who died after being struck by a pickup while he was walking in the road on Hwy. 21 at Amvets Drive in De Soto on Tuesday morning, Sept. 9.

At 5:25 a.m. Tuesday, Bourbon was walking southbound in the road and was struck by a 2009 Dodge Ram 1500 driven by a 25-year-old Hillsboro man, who said he had not seen Bourbon before or after the collision, the Missouri State Highway Patrol reported.

Cpl. Dallas Thompson, a highway patrol spokesman, said he believes Bourbon’s body was found in a ditch by someone walking by. The De Soto Police Department pronounced Bourbon dead at the scene at 6:53 a.m., and the body was taken to the St. Louis County Morgue by Edwards Mortuary Services.

Sgt. Andy Gadberry, another highway patrol spokesperson, said officers learned that the Hillsboro man had contacted authorities earlier in the morning about hitting something in the road. The driver indicated he didn’t know what he had hit.

The pickup had moderate damage and the driver, who was wearing a seat belt, was uninjured, the report said.

A 50-year-old De Soto-area man died after he was walking southbound in the road at Hwy. 21 and Amvets Drive in De Soto and was struck by a pickup at 5:25 a.m. today, Sept. 9, the Missouri State Highway Patrol reported.

The man has been identified, but the highway patrol would not release his name.

A 25-year-old Hillsboro man was driving the pickup, a 2009 Dodge Ram 1500, that hit the De Soto-area man, who was not visible to the driver, the highway patrol reported.

De Soto-area man died after being struck by a vehicle at Hwy. 21 and Amvets Drive in De Soto, authorities reported.

The man has been identified, but the Missouri State Highway Patrol would not release his name.

Highway patrol spokesman Cpl. Dallas Thompson said he believes the man’s body was found today, Sept. 9, in a ditch by someone walking by. De Soto Police officers were dispatched to the scene at 6:53 a.m.

Thompson said he believes the man was struck by a vehicle sometime overnight, and the driver left the scene and has not been identified. Thompson said the patrol is handling the investigation and as of 1 p.m., authorities had no leads regarding the vehicle or driver that struck the man.

Sgt. Andy Gadberry, another highway patrol spokesperson, said the victim was approximately 50 years old.
