Orland “Lewis” Garner Jr., 90, of Barnhart died Jan. 12, 2020, at de Greeff Hospice House in St. Louis County. Mr. Garner was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and a member of Windsor Baptist Church in Imperial. He was a retired shift supervisor at the Sunmark candy factory in St. Louis. He ran with the St. Louis Track Club in his 50s, and enjoyed gardening and deer hunting. Born July 4, 1929, in Sewannee, Tenn., he was the son of the late Susie (Wells) and Orland Lewis Garner Sr. He was preceded in death by his wife: Margie Irene (Blake) Garner.
He is survived by a daughter: Pamela (James) Davis of Barnhart; three sons: Brian (Jeannie) Garner of Imperial, Jeffery (Karen) Garner of Festus and Timothy Garner of De Soto; two brothers: Larry Garner of Chattanooga, Tenn., and Alan Garner of Atlanta, Ga.; a sister: Sally (the late Carlos) Peters of Chattanooga, Tenn.; two sisters-in-law: Glynda Garner of Metter, Ga., and Kathy Garner of Buckhorn; 10 grandchildren: Kelly (Jason) Drinen, Robert (Sarah) Davis, Kurtis (Jamie) Garner, Lauren (fiance Brian Harms) Garner, Amber (Eric) Green, Jacob (fiancee Andrea Marlow) Garner, Alex (Melanie) Garner, Tania Rudolph, Justin Garner and Jessica Garner; and seven great-grandchildren: Paige Drinen, Olivia Drinen, Samantha Drinen, Sophia Davis, Elijah Davis, Greyson Green and Hunter Rudolph.
He was preceded in death by a son: Gregory Garner; three brothers: Roger, Jerry and Joe Garner; and a great-granddaughter: Hope Rudolph.
Visitation is scheduled from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 15, at Windsor Baptist Church, 6701 Hwy. 61-67, in Imperial. Visitation is at noon and a funeral service will take place at 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 16, at the church, officiated by Pastor Darren Webb. Burial will follow in the Shepherd Hills Cemetery in Barnhart. Memorials may be made to de Greeff Hospice House in St. Louis County. Arrangements are under the direction of Vinyard Funeral Home in Festus.
