Marcella Grace Vaughn, 89, of Festus died Aug. 24, 2023, at Crystal Oaks Nursing Center in Crystal City. Mrs. Vaughn worked as a cook for the former Jefferson Memorial Hospital. She was a member of Sacred Heart Church in Crystal City and the American Legion Auxiliary. She was born March 5, 1934, in Ste. Genevieve, the daughter of the late Mary Ann (Bonarnes) and Lawrence Schmidt Sr. She was preceded in death by her husband: Thomas Edward Vaughn, who died June 21.
She is survived by a daughter: Mary (Craig) Schaumburg of Crystal City; and three grandchildren: Cole, Cyle and Cale Schaumburg. She was preceded in death by five siblings: Christine (the late Chalmer) Meyer, Helen (the late Marion) Politte, Lawrence (Kathleen survives of Ste. Genevieve) Schmidt, Edna (the late Donald) Stolzer and Anna Marie (the late Carol) Drury.
Visitation is scheduled from 2-6 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 27, at Vinyard Funeral Home, 616 W. Main St., in Festus. Funeral Mass is at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 28, at Sacred Heart Church, 555 Brierton Lane, in Crystal City, officiated by Father Steve Lian. Burial is in the Sacred Heart Cemetery, 1204 Missouri Ave, in Crystal City. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association. Arrangements are under the direction of Vinyard Funeral Home.
