Lloyd Thomas Clayton, 89, of House Springs died Oct. 6, 2023, in House Springs. Mr. Clayton served in the U.S. Navy, receiving Expert Rifleman, Expert Pistol and Good Conduct medals. After leaving the military, he worked as a police officer for the Olivette Police Department and retired in 1994 from the St. Louis Carpenter’s Union. He was a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association and loved target shooting with his children, grandchildren and his best friend, Richard Brown. He is remembered for his honesty, loyalty, selflessness, integrity respectfulness and unconditional love for family. He was a simple man who never left home without his cowboy boots and hat. Born July 8, 1934, he was the son of the late Earl and Erma (Pfefferkorn) Clayton. He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years: Loretta Clayton.
He is survived by two children: Thomas (Yvonne) Clayton and Jennifer (Sherrod) Ferguson; three grandchildren: Jacob Clayton, Madison Clayton and Garrett Ferguson; and three siblings: James Clayton, Darlene Sample and Rita Ostendorf. He was preceded in death by a brother: John Clayton.
Visitation is scheduled from 9 a.m. until a funeral service at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 16, at Laclede Groves Chapel, 723 South Laclede Station Road, in Webster Groves. Burial with full military honors will follow in the Resurrection Cemetery. A luncheon for family and friends will follow the service at Laclede Groves. Memorials may be made to the National Rifle Association or to Laclede Groves Lutheran Senior Services Advancement Office, 723 S. Laclede Station Road, St Louis, 63119. Arrangements are under the direction of Kutis Funeral Home in Affton.
