Womack, Lee

Lee Edward Womack, 78, of Festus died March 28, 2023, at his home. Mr. Womack was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Vietnam War with Fleet Composite Squadron Eight, earning the National Defense Service Medal and Air Force Outstanding Unit Award.  He served in the Naval Reserves and was a heavy equipment operator with the 220th Army National Guard earning the MONG Commendation ribbon, MONG SED Service ribbon and Expert Rifle badge and bar.  He retired as a mathematics teacher for the Festus R-6 School District. He was a founding member and past president of the Mississippi River Eagles; life member and past Exalted Ruler of Elks Lodge 1721; a member of Shekinah Masonic Lodge 256 and Scottish Rite; and served as a former Commissioner for the Festus Special Road District. He was born Nov. 6, 1944, in St. Louis, the son of the late Almyra Josephine (Denham) and Louis Edward Womack.

He is survived by his wife: Veeda (Hoggatt) Womack; two daughters: Michelle “Mikki” Womack of St. Louis and Amy (Jeff) Womack-Cornman of Festus; four grandchildren: Danielle, Noah, Dane and Joscelynn “Josie” Cornman; a brother: William (Pat) Womack of Minnesota; and many nieces, nephews and other family members. He was preceded in death by two brothers: Robert (Vonnie) Moeser and John (the late Patricia) Moeser; and a sister: Sharon (the late Walter) Williams.

Private family services were held. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or to MilitaryVeteranProject.org. Arrangements are under the direction of Vinyard Funeral Home in Festus.
