John Michael Stewart Sr., 56, of De Soto died Sept. 9, 2023, in De Soto. Mr. Stewart was a Catholic whose spirituality was an important part of his life. He lived his last 33 years in recovery. He was an avid fisherman, sports fan and cook and had an immense enthusiasm for music, especially his favorite Irish rock band, U2. He was born Oct. 24, 1966, in Chicago, Ill., the son of Warren Stewart and the late Patricia Stewart.
In addition to his father, he is survived by his wife: Amy (Butler) Stewart, whom he married on June 6, 1987; four children: Coley (Mark) Fetters, Amanda (Jeremy) Ruhl, John (Gena) Stewart and David Stewart; four grandchildren: Jace and Julie Ruhl and Rusty and Harry Stewart; his parents-in-law: Michael and Elise Butler, four siblings: Sheri, Suzanne, Ron and David; and many other family members and friends. He was preceded in death by a daughter: Hailey Stewart; and a brother: Warren Stewart.
Visitation is scheduled from 4-8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 22, at Robert D. Brown Funeral Home, 103 Fourth St., in Hillsboro. Visitation is from 10 a.m. until a funeral Mass at noon Saturday, Sept. 23, at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, 703 Third St., in Hillsboro. Burial will follow in the Good Shepherd Cemetery in Hillsboro. Arrangements are under the direction of Robert D. Brown Funeral Home.
