Virginia Marsalene (White) Marshall, 83, of Crystal City died Oct. 19, 2023, at Fountainbleau Nursing Center in Festus. After the passing of her mother, Ms. Marshall moved north to Crystal City with her father and siblings to attend school. She married Donald Marshall Sr. and together raised six children. Affectionately known as "Sissy,” she loved hosting card games, playing the lottery and always had her stock of ice-cold Pepsi in the fridge. Born March 4, 1940, in Ste. Genevieve, she was the daughter of the late Genevieve (Madison) and Herbert White Sr.
She was preceded in death by her husband: Donald Marshall Sr.; and her partner: Ivan Riney.
She is survived by a daughter: Donna (Stacey Sr.) Thornton of Festus; nine granddaughters: Miranda Marshall and Augusta Bruce of St. Louis, Tiara Marshall of Crystal City, Alicia (Bruce) Suber of Herculaneum, Ami Marshall-Jeffries of Peru, Ill., Sheree Marshall of Tampa, Fla., Shirlee Marshall of St. Louis, Tameca Carson of St. Louis and Janine Carson of St. Louis; five grandsons: Stacey Jr. and Jalen Thornton of Festus, Tryson (Megan) Thornton of Herculaneum, Fredrick Carson of St. Louis and Steve Carson of St. Louis; one special friend and caregiver: Tammy Freels of Crystal City; as well as many other family members and friends.
She also was preceded in death by five siblings: Herbert Jr., David, Jerome, John and Milton White; five children: Terry, Phyllis, Donald Jr., Kimberly and Keith Marshall; a granddaughter: Jessica Marshall; and her best friend: Shelby Jackson.
Visitation is scheduled from noon until a funeral service at 1 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 29, at Mahn Twin City Chapel, 515 Collins Drive, in Festus, officiated by Pastor James Riney. A repast will be held following the service at Amvets Post 42, 690 Joachim Ave, in Herculaneum. Arrangements are under the direction of Mahn Twin City Chapel.
