Welborn, Teddy

Teddy L. Welborn, 77, of Arnold died Nov. 8, 2024. Mr. Welborn was an Air Force radar repairman during the Vietnam conflict and later worked in carpentry at the Lumber Company and Northrup Construction in Dallas City, Ill. In the mid-1970s, he worked as a millwright at the Hubinger Co. in Keokuk, Iowa. He returned to carpentry in 1987 as a journeyman with Markway Construction in St. Louis, becoming disabled in 2006. He served as a deacon, elder or trustee where he worshipped, devoting himself to the church and congregation. He loved hunting for treasures to add to his numerous collections and was fascinated with miniatures like wooden boxes, oil cans and tiny cast iron cars, which were also enjoyed by his great-grandsons. He was known for his strong conviction to help others, commitment to his loved ones and always being available to lend a hand or share his knowledge. Born Feb. 8, 1947, in LaHarpe, Ill., he was the son of the late Carl and Darlene Welborn.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years: Mary (Harris) Welborn, whom he married in Dallas City, Ill., in 1966; three daughters: Ann Wallenmeyer of Springfield, Carol (Graham) Markway of Fenton and Sandra Harden of Arnold; a brother: Paul (Linda) Welborn of Burlington, Iowa; a sister-in-law: Dr. Linda Deaver of Carrollton, Texas; five grandchildren: Brittney Harden of Arnold, Courtney (John) Elliot of Cedar Hill, Melinda (Jeff) Moore of Springfield, Alyssa (Joe) Lipsmire of Dittmer and Teddy Wallenmeyer of Springfield; 10 great-grandchildren; eight nieces and nephews; and many friends. 

He was preceded in death by a sister: Cindy Love; parents-in-law: the Rev. Charles and Eldora Harris; and a brother-in-law: Dr. Edwin Harris.

Visitation is scheduled from 10:30 a.m. until services at noon Wednesday, Nov. 13, at Jay B. Smith Funeral Home Fenton Chapel, 777 Oakwood Drive, in Fenton. Burial will follow in the National Cemetery at Jefferson Barracks. Arrangements are under the direction of Jay B. Smith Funeral Home.
