Steven Patrick Scanlon, 39, of Ste. Genevieve County died Nov. 7, 2025, at his home. A natural athlete and teammate, Mr. Scanlon was quarterback and captain of the Hillsboro High School football team. He was a carpenter and handyman and created a home for his family. He was an employee of Thomas Industrial Coatings in Jefferson County for 13 years, often traveling throughout the U.S. He was known for his ability to connect with others and built a wide circle of close friends and acquaintances. He loved to spend time with his family, especially his sons. He also was known for making amazing mashed potatoes. He will be remembered for being loving, kind, talented and reliable. Born June 2, 1986, he was the youngest son of William “Bill” (Georgina “Cissy”) Scanlon and the late Christa (Stark) Scanlon.
In addition to his father and stepmother, he is survived by his wife: Hannah Jokerst Scanlon, whom he met while studying at Southeast Missouri State University and married on Sept. 15, 2012; two sons: Samuel and Noah; two brothers: Jeff (Carol) Scanlon and David “Christopher” (Carrie) Bowling; a nephew Ayden; a niece: Grace; his parents-in-law: Thomas and Mary Ellen of Ste. Genevieve; and many other family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his brother: Joshua; a nephew: Caleb; and an aunt: Cindy.
Visitation is scheduled from 3-7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 14, at Basler Funeral Home, 685 Center Drive, in Ste. Genevieve. Visitation will resume from 9 a.m. until services at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 15, at the funeral home. Inurnment will follow in Valle Spring Cemetery. Any memorial donations given to the family will be put into a Hardship Grant through the Li Fraumeni Association in Mr. Scanlon’s name. Arrangements are under the direction of Basler Funeral Home.
