Konert, Stephen

Stephen Gerhard Konert, 75, of Fenton died March 6, 2026, at his home. Mr. Konert was a decorated Vietnam Army veteran who loved his career as a railroad engineer with Frisco and then BNSF railroads, retiring after 38 years of service. He was known for his storytelling abilities and for sharing his many memories with others. From his childhood on the family farm with his siblings to sharing his love of the farm with his daughter, granddaughter, nieces and nephews, he loved spending time with friends and family and having long conversations over a cup of coffee at Dickman’s. He will be remembered for his humor, honor and kindness. Born April 18, 1950, he was the son of the late August and Margaret (Stetina) Konert.

He is survived by a granddaughter: Delaney Konert-Edison; five siblings: Patricia von zur Muehlen (Joe), Dolores (Mike) McGuire, Carolyn (Ray) Roettger, Cathy (Jim) Schierhoff and Elizabeth Konert; and many nieces and nephews. 

He was preceded in death by a daughter: Kimberly Konert; a brother: Theodore Konert; and two sisters: Margaret Toler and Jacqueline Littge. 

Visitation is from 4-8 p.m. Monday, March 16, at Jay B. Smith Funeral Home, 777 Oakwood Drive, in Fenton. A funeral Mass is scheduled for 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 17, at St. Paul Catholic Church, 15 Forest Knoll Drive, in Fenton. Burial will follow in St. John’s Cemetery in High Ridge. Arrangements are under the direction of Jay B. Smith Funeral Home.
