Shirley R. Compton, 94, formerly of De Soto, died Dec. 23, 2024, at Mercy Hospital South in St. Louis County. Mrs. Compton was a homemaker. Born Aug. 29, 1930, in De Soto, she was the daughter of the late Myrtle (Atwell) and Roy Boly.
She was preceded in death by her husband: Russell Edward Compton, whom she married on March 22, 1946, in Potosi.
She is survived by two children: Randy (Kay) Compton of Festus and Kathy (Tim) Goodman of Festus; two siblings: Bonnie Lawson of Shawnee Mission, Kan., and Joanna Soles of St. Louis; five grandchildren: Tom (Jamie) Compton, Joe (Amanda) Goodman, Mark (Kim) Richardson, Vicky (Ray) Hartman and Amanda (Jason) Rees; and 14 great-grandchildren: Tommy R. Compton, Austin Compton, Madison Young, Gavin Grass, Max Richardson, Kylie Richardson, Carson Grass, Bekah Goodman, Gracie Young, Ava Grass, Riley Goodman, Reagan Goodman, Brody Rees and Chaley Rees.
She also was preceded in death by a son: Tom (Sandra) Compton; and several siblings.
Visitation is scheduled from 11 a.m. until services at 1 p.m. today, Dec. 30, at Dietrich-Mothershead Funeral Home, 220 N. Main, in De Soto, officiated by the Rev. Jerry Compton. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in De Soto. Arrangements are under the direction of Dietrich-Mothershead Funeral Home.
