Shirley May Casteel, 86, of High Ridge died March 9, 2026. Mrs. Casteel graduated as valedictorian of Horse Branch High School and was known for her determination and dedication. She became the first female supervisor at Quickpoint Printing, where she was respected for her leadership and strong work ethic. She was an auxiliary member of the High Ridge Elks Lodge, High Ridge Gun Club and High Ridge Volunteer Fire Department, and valued the friendships and community she found there. She loved reading, playing bingo and especially traveling with her close friends, Rich and Pauline Terry. She also loved sewing and was an avid crafter, often creating handmade items for family and friends. She will be remembered for her strength, kindness and devotion to her family. Born April 22, 1939, in Rosine, Ky., she was the daughter of the late Hobart and Verda Mae (Probus) Swift.
She was preceded in death by her husband: Lawrence Ray Casteel.
She is survived by five children: Larry (Jennifer) Casteel, Doug (Susan) Casteel, Ricky (Lisa) Casteel, Cindy (Eric) Walker and Pam (David) Kennon; 13 grandchildren: Jamey Casteel, Rodney Casteel, Shelly Shirley, Ryan Walker, Colton Walker, Tori Kennon, Bryan “Alex” Kennon, Sara Evans, David Abner, Justin Abner, Karen Brock, Ryan Sorbello and Christine Noto; 12 great-grandchildren; and many other family members and friends.
She also was preceded in death by six siblings: Oval Swift, Gova “ToJo” Swift, Wyman “Dime” Swift, Welby Swift, Hobart “Junior” Swift and Thelma Skaggs.
Visitation is scheduled from 10 a.m. until a funeral service at noon Saturday, March 14, at Chapel Hill Mortuary, 6300 Hwy. 30, in Cedar Hill. Interment will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Cedar Hill. Arrangements are under the direction of Chapel Hill Mortuary.
