Shelby “Jean” Freund, 86, Hillsboro died Sept. 9, 2024, at Mercy Hospital St. Louis in Creve Coeur. Mrs. Freund worked as a secretary at Jefferson College. Born Sept. 26, 1937, in Grubville, she was the daughter of the late Shelby and Esther (Miller) Wideman.
She was preceded in death by her husband: Larry B. Freund.
She is survived by two children: Richard G. (Laura) Freund of De Soto and Kelly S. (Sheri) Freund of Ironton; four grandchildren: Nicole Freund (Chris) Miller, Tyler (Molly) Freund, Justin (Cindy) Freund and Ethan (Kaylee) Freund; 10 great-grandchildren: Cameron Garlik, Heston Freund, William Freund, Flint Freund, Kort Freund, Warren Freund, Sage Freund, Owen Miller, Marx Green and Bizley Green; two siblings: Dale Wideman of St. Charles and David Wideman of St. Clair; and many other family members and friends.
She also was preceded in death by a granddaughter: Elizabeth Freund; and a sister: Alma Mahoney.
A memorial gathering is scheduled from 10 a.m. until a memorial service at 11:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 20, at First Baptist Church, 2000 Grace Way, in De Soto, officiated by the Rev. Gene Smith. Inurnment will be in the National Cemetery at Jefferson Barracks. Arrangements are under the direction of Dietrich-Mothershead Funeral Home in De Soto.
