Shelba "Jean" Whitter, 88, of De Soto died March 17, 2025, at her home. Mrs. Whitter was a homemaker and a member of the De Soto Christian Church. She loved being outside, camping and gardening. She also enjoyed canning, going to yard sales, sewing and listening to music. She was known to help others in times of need, especially children. She loved spending time with her family and friends. Born March 1, 1937, in Richwoods, she was the daughter of the late Charles Vest and Myrtle (Cardwell) Vest.
She was preceded in death by her husband: Paul J. Whitter.
She is survived by a son: Mark (Carla) Whitter of De Soto; three daughters: Sheryl (the late Tom) Burroughs of Converse, Ind., Pam (Lindell) Osia of De Soto and Patti (Louis) LaRose of De Soto; a brother: Dale (Kathy) Vest of Potosi; a sister: Carolyn Conner of De Soto; 14 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
She also was preceded in death by two sons: Larry Whitter and Rick Whitter; a grandson; and a great-grandson.
Visitation is scheduled from 3-7 p.m. Sunday, March 23, at Mahn Funeral Home, 900 N. Main St., in De Soto. Services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Monday, March 24, at the funeral home, officiated by Ron Follmer. Burial will follow in Peaceful Ridge Cemetery in De Soto.
