Schwalbert, Roger

Roger William Schwalbert, 66, of De Soto died Sept. 14, 2024, after a long battle with cancer. He was an operating engineer and dump truck owner and operator who worked in the asphalt paving industry. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, waterskiing and boating. He loved his Harley and all things fast. He enjoyed drag racing for many years and was known as "Shoe String" at 1-55 Raceway. He loved trail riding, training horses and taking his dog, Blue, for rides in the side-by-side. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, who referred to him as “Papa.” He will be remembered as fair, honest and hardworking and for offering help to a friend or stranger and expecting nothing in return. Born June 12, 1958, in St. Louis, he was the son of Jewell E. (Young) and Robert P. Schwalbert Sr.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years: Lynn A. (Glier-Lambrich) Schwalbert; three children: Selena K. Lambrich (Ben) Johnson of Imperial, Justin W. (Michelle) Lambrich of Imperial and Michael A. (Jessica Mendez) Schwalbert of Webster Groves; three siblings: Deborah K. Barbeau of Otto, Robert P. (Debra) Schwalbert Jr. of Hillsboro and Timothy J. Schwalbert of Festus; a mother-in-law: Carol A. Rose of Festus; and many other family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by a brother: Mitchell A. Schwalbert.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Arrangements are under the direction of Robert D. Brown Funeral Home in Hillsboro.
