
Robert Martin “Marty” Vaughn, 70, of Bloomsdale died Sept. 8, 2025, at his home after battling cancer. Mr. Vaughn was a retired chemical packer at DPC in Festus. He was a construction laborer and lifelong member of First Baptist Church of Festus-Crystal City, where he served as a deacon, Sunday School teacher and children's church leader. He was a baseball and basketball enthusiast, an umpire, a church league basketball and softball coach, a collector of baseball cards and an avid fan of American and Civil War history. He especially loved spending time with his children, enjoyed camping with and giving four-wheeler rides to his grandchildren and caring for his many farm animals. Born Sept. 14, 1954, in St. Louis, he was the son of the late Violet Marie (Goff) and Robert George Vaughn.
He is survived by his wife: Susan (Sweeney) Vaughn; nine children: Lettie (Ted) Bradford of Festus, Anna (Matthew) Tegg of Hannibal, Grace (Tyler) Peterein of Festus, Abigail (James) Barton of Crystal City, Naomi (Robert) Fina of De Soto, Luke (Anna) Vaughn of St. Louis, Phoebe (Blake) Sheldon of Bloomsdale, Lily (Ethan) Ford of Festus and Levi (McKenzi) Vaughn of Bloomsdale; 33 grandchildren: Theo, Tucker, Guy, Millie, Titus, Zadok, Benaiah, Hadessah, Zipporah, Gilbert, Reggie, Lottie, Fletcher, Jimmy, Giuliana, Abel, Alice, Pearl, Magnolia, Axel, Nellie, Margaret, Greta, Harvey, Poppy, Psalm, Grant, Griffin, Marty, Omar, Enys, Sybil, Monroe and another on the way; a great-granddaughter: Raelynn Bradford; a brother: Charlie (Karen) Vaughn of Bloomsdale: a sister: Karen (the late Lloyd) Apple of Pacific; and numerous other family members and friends.
A visitation is scheduled from 2-6 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 14, at First Baptist Church of Festus-Crystal City, 107 N. Truman Blvd., in Crystal City. Visitation will resume from 9 a.m. until a funeral service at 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 15, at the church, officiated by Pastor Mitch Jackson. Interment will follow in Rose Lawn Memorial Gardens in Crystal City. Memorials may be made to the Building Fund of First Baptist Church of Festus-Crystal City. Arrangements are under the direction of Vinyard Funeral Home.
