Robert L. “Bob” Reed, 90, of Hillsboro died Feb. 6, 2025, at Mercy Hospital Jefferson in Crystal City. Mr. Reed was a retired draftsman for Combustion Engineering. He served in the U.S. Air Force, was a member of the Elks 689 and enjoyed playing golf and hunting. Born Sept. 17, 1934, in Jefferson City, he was the son of the late Myrtle May (Miller) and Allen Edward Reed.
He is survived by five children: Dr. Kim Weitl of Imperial, Lisa (Jim) Gamble of Voorhees, N.J., Robert John Reed of Valle Lake, Patrick (Diane) Reed of Hillsboro and Mary Nicole “Nikki” (Shawn) Copeland of Alton, Ill.; five siblings: Marcella Luechtefeld of Glencoe, Mary Jane (Lloyd) Thebeau of Hillsboro, David (Janet) Reed of Hillsboro, Dr. Leslie (Mary Beth) Reed of Hillsboro and Roger Reed of Hillsboro; two sisters-in-law: Liz Reed of Hillsboro and Linda Bauman Reed of Festus; eight grandchildren: Lindsey (Ryan) Baker, David Gamble, Jillian (Jesse) Coffey, Ryan (Jackie) Gamble, Jordan Reed, Ryder Copeland, Lydia Copeland and Brandon (Laura) Rendon; and three great-grandchildren: Callan Coffey, Carter Reed and Carianna Rendon.
He was preceded in death by five sisters: Amelia “Dolly” Thomeczek, Helen Hayes Agnello, Dr. Martha Reed, Sarah Reed and Della Reed; four brothers: Eugene “Pete” Reed; Don Reed, Franklin “Frank” Reed and James Reed; two sisters-in-law: Patricia Reed and Waltraud “Trudy” Reed; and three brothers-in-law: Norbert Thomeczek, George Hayes and Salvatore Agnello.
A memorial gathering is scheduled from 4 p.m. until services at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 12, at Dietrich-Mothershead Funeral Home, 220 N. Main St., in De Soto. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 4207 Lindell Blvd., St. Louis, 63108. Arrangements are under the direction of Dietrich-Mothershead Funeral Home.
