Robert Edward “Bob” Young, 100, of De Soto died May 10, 2025, at Mercy Hospital South in St. Louis County. Mr. Young retired from Sachs Electric. He was a World War II veteran and a life member of the Amvets Post 48 and the B.P.O.E. Lodge 689. He was baptized at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church. He enjoyed being outdoors, especially hunting, fishing and watching hummingbirds. He was a fan of the St. Louis Cardinals. Born Feb. 20, 1925, in De Soto, he was the son of the late Effie (Nussbaumer) and Otto Young.
He was preceded in death by his wife: Wanda (Roberson) Young.
He is survived by a stepdaughter: Iris (Jerry Hartman) Bernhardt; three grandchildren: Tarrole (Felix) Milfeld, Todd (Terri) Bernhardt and Trent (Larysa) Bernhardt; seven great-grandchildren: Kyle (Kimberley), Harrison, Morgan (Nathan), Brandon, Taylor, Illya and Allie; three great-great-grandchildren: Leaghton, Lola and Loic; and several nieces and nephews, including a special nephew: Ron Young.
He also was preceded in death by two sisters: Marie Goodwin and Delphine Reese; and a brother: Melvin Young.
Visitation is scheduled from noon until services at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 14, at Dietrich-Mothershead Funeral Home, 220 N. Main St., in De Soto, officiated by the Rev. Dr. G. Michael Rose. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in De Soto. Arrangements are under the direction of Dietrich-Mothershead Funeral Home.
