Richard John Kelly, 78, of Cedar Hill died Feb. 19, 2025. Mr. Kelly served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Saratoga. A jack of all trades, he had a knack for working on cars and tractors. He was an avid outdoorsman and spent many days fishing. He also enjoyed being at home with his cat, Iggy, by his side. He will be remembered for his hard work, resourcefulness and kind heart. Born Sept. 18, 1946, in St. Louis he was the son of the late Leroy J. and Doris R. (Rackovan) Kelly.
He was preceded in death by his wife: Janice Kelly.
He is survived by a daughter: Samantha (Brent) Ellis; three grandchildren: Karly (Justin Livon) Ellis, Tyler (fiancee Britany Young) Ellis and Lucas (fiancee Jade Lavoie) Ellis; two siblings: Leslie (Michael) Willis and Kurt Kelly; two nephews: Stephen Willis and Alvin (Melissa) Trusty; and numerous other family members and friends.
Visitation is scheduled from 4-8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 27, at Chapel Hill Mortuary, 6300 Hwy. 30, in Cedar Hill. A funeral service is scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 28, at the mortuary. Burial will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Cedar Hill. Arrangements are under the direction of Chapel Hill Mortuary.
