Elder, Paul

Paul Vincent Elder, 78, of House Springs died Sept. 24, 2023. Mr. Elder was a veteran of the U.S. Army, dedicating his service and time to the Reserves. He went to work for Ameren, working his way up from sweeping the floors to becoming an operations engineer and managing three electrical plants. He loved spending time with his family, especially the grandchildren, and enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, hunting and camping. He and his wife enjoyed extensive travel. He was also a skilled craftsman; he could fix anything and had a talent for winemaking. Born Jan. 13, 1945, in Perryville, he was the son of the late Zelma (Blechle) and George Elder. He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years: Kathy Elder.

He is survived by three children: Michael (Gloria) Elder, Jason (Holly) Elder  and Jennifer Daugherty; eight grandchildren: Veronica (Robert) Germann, Danielle (Corey) Neilson, Michael Elder Jr., Joshua Elder, Jacob (Amy) Winford, Hailey Winford, Krysten Elder and Jayden Elder; four great-grandchildren: William, Noel, Lisa and Nora; five siblings: Mary Parker, Barb James, Bobby Elder, Jimmy Elder and Rich Elder; 22 nieces and nephews; as well as many other family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by four brothers: Danny, Steve, Jerry and Donny Elder; and a son-in-law: Zach Daugherty.

Visitation is scheduled from 11 a.m. until a funeral service at 1 p.m., Monday, Oct. 2, at Chapel Hill Mortuary, 6300 Hwy. 30, in Cedar Hill. A graveside service with full military honors will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Arrangements are under the direction of Chapel Hill Mortuary.
