Byron, Ora 'Fern'

Ora “Fern” Byron, 94, of Cave Creek, Ariz., formerly of De Soto, died June 23, 2026. Mrs. Byron was an elementary school teacher for the De Soto School District and a member of the First Baptist Church of De Soto. Born April 29, 1932, in De Soto, she was the daughter of the late Victor and Viola Fern (Henry) Huskey.

She was preceded in death by her husband: Kenneth R. Byron, whom she married on June 6, 1948, at Oakland Baptist Church in De Soto.

She is survived by a child: Loretta Lee Harshaw of Cave Creek, Ariz.; two grandchildren: Sara (Scott) Shimmin of Cave Creek, Ariz., and Julia (Lucas) Harris of Ferrelview; three great-grandchildren: Odi (Grey) Barrett of Grain Valley, Luke Shimmin of Cave Creek, Ariz., and Noelle Shimmin of Cave Creek, Ariz.; a sibling: Beverly (Gary) DeClue of Avondale, Ariz.; a brother-in-law: Dale Wideman; and a sister-in-law: Judy Huskey.

She also was preceded in death by seven siblings: Opal (Stanley) Pinson, Doris (Dale) Wideman, Victor (Judy) Huskey Jr., Donald (Lillie) Huskey, Karl (Joyce) Huskey, Delores Huskey and Janet Huskey.

Visitation is scheduled from 5-8 p.m. Monday, June 29, at Dietrich-Mothershead Funeral Home, 220 N. Main St., in De Soto. A funeral service is scheduled for 1 p.m. Tuesday, June 30, at the funeral home, officiated by the Rev. Gene Smith. Interment will be in Oakland Baptist Cemetery in De Soto. Arrangements are under the direction of Dietrich-Mothershead Funeral Home.
