Opal Gean (Hill) Schuler, 84, of De Soto died Dec. 19, 2024. Mrs. Schuler was a retired switchboard operator at Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital. She was of the Lutheran faith. Born Jan. 6, 1940, in Gideon, she was the daughter of the late Virginia Alice Marie (Montgomery) Hill Wood and Elbert Hill. She was the stepdaughter of the late Autie Alton Wood.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years: John Henry Schuler.
She is survived by six children: Tammy Bess of Eureka, Kevin Bess of Warrenton, Rodney Montgomery of St. Charles, Jason (Dawn) Sherrill of Farmington, Jerris Sherrill of Belleville, Ill., and Michelle (Mike) Craig of Hillsboro; three siblings: Mary Powell, Bobbi Salas and Joe Hill; 14 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
She also was preceded in death by a son: Douglas "Dougie" Elbert Bess; three siblings: Tommy Dale Hill, Connie (Hill) Pinkston and Clarence Lee Hill; and a grandson: Timothy Quasebarth.
Services will be private for immediate family. Burial will be in Bounds Creek Cemetery in Silva.
