Berry, Michael

Michael J. “Mike” Berry, 68, of Festus died Aug. 17, 2025, in St. Louis. Throughout his career, Mr. Berry owned several businesses, including Jackrabbit Express and I-55 Motor Express, and devoted many years to delivering newspapers. In 2006, he became a school bus driver for the Windsor School District. Known affectionately as "Mr. Mike," he became a cherished figure among students, combining his love for children with his passion for driving. He was known for his hard work, dependability, kindness and generosity, as well as his ability to share laughter and deliver a well-timed joke. He enjoyed automobiles and driving, elements that were prevalent throughout his career. He also enjoyed mowing grass, attending stock car races and watching NASCAR. He will be remembered for his dedication to family and the community, his commitment to hard work and the joy he brought to others. Born Feb. 16, 1957, in St. Louis, he was the son of Joseph A. (the late Charlene) Berry and Nancy M. Berry.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by three children: Danielle, Michael and Paul Berry; eight grandchildren: Cody, Adin, Joseph, Roman, Mackayla, Madelyn, Aaliyah and Stephen; two siblings: Laura Jones and JoAnn (Jeff) Preis; three stepsiblings: Randy, Rick and Roger; three close friends: Sandy Huson, Tina Walker and Lisa McCulley; and many other family members, colleagues, students and families from Windsor School District.

He was preceded in death by a stepsibling: Ronnie Goldmann.

Visitation is scheduled from 4-8 p.m. Monday, Aug. 25, at John L. Ziegenhein and Sons Funeral Homes-South County Chapel, 4830 Lemay Ferry Road, in St. Louis County. A funeral service is scheduled for 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 26, at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Shepherd Hills Cemetery in Barnhart. Arrangements are under the direction of John L. Ziegenhein and Sons Funeral Homes-South County Chapel.
