Melvin Firman Robinson, 72, North Platte, Neb.

Melvin Firman Robinson, 72, of North Platte, Neb., died Dec. 30, 2023, at Great Plains Health. Mr. Robinson grew up in Cahokia, Ill. He is a U.S. Army veteran and served stateside. Following his discharge, he traveled across the U.S. on his bicycle, working jobs as he went. He continued his travels later in life in a van he modified with a sleeping area and tub. He settled in North Platte in 2002 and spent the remainder of his life there. He enjoyed meeting new people. Born Feb. 5, 1951, in St. Louis, he was the son of the late Ruby (Radford) and Melvin Robinson Sr.

He is survived by a daughter: Denise Bradshaw of Greeley, Colo.; four grandchildren: Tondarae, Robi, Bryce and Nic; a great-grandchild: Riley; a sister: Melody Cousey of Imperial; four nieces and nephews: Tina (Don) Sherrill, Scott (Carla) Keys, Sheila (Tracy) Jones and Jim (Nicole) Keys; and many other family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by a sister: Peggy Scott; and a nephew: Kristen Keys.

Visitation will be from noon to 5 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 11, at Adams and Swanson Funeral Home, 421 W. Fourth St., in North Platte. Services will be at 12:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 12, at the funeral home, officiated by Pastor Jeremy Rinke. Burial will follow in Fort McPherson National Cemetery near Maxwell, Neb. Memorials may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project or to Mental Health Services. Arrangements are under the direction of Adams and Swanson Funeral Home.
