Mary Ellen (Cage) Politte, 81, of Festus died Nov. 23, 2024, at her home. Mrs. Politte worked in many different professions, from waitress to school cook. She worked at Trimfoot and De Soto shoe companies at various times. She enjoyed babysitting and doing yard work. She loved using her metal detector hoping to find buried treasure but was just as happy if she only found a penny. She also loved going to yard sales and was known for her frugal and stubborn ways. Born May 28, 1943, in Festus, she was the daughter of the late Dewey George and Alice Mary (Lock) Cage.
She is survived by her husband of 61 years: Joseph W. Politte of Festus, whom she married on Jan. 21, 1963, in De Soto; two children: Joseph W. Jr. of De Soto and Bonita F. Amsden of De Soto; two brothers: John L. Cage of Festus and Billy D. (Pat) Cage of Belgrade, Mont.; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and many nephews and nieces.
She was preceded in death by 11 siblings and two half-siblings.
Visitation is scheduled from 2-6 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 1, at Vinyard Funeral Home, 616 W. Main St., in Festus. Funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 2, at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Festus Presbyterian Methodist Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Foundation. Arrangements are under the direction of Vinyard Funeral Home.
