Mary Anne Schwent, 86, of Festus died Jan. 4, 2026, at her home. Mrs. Schwent worked as a secretary at Liguori Publications and later worked for the Festus Public Library. She was a member of Our Lady Catholic Church in Festus. She volunteered with the Friends of the Festus Public Library. Born July 4, 1939, in St. Louis County, she was the daughter of the late Goldie (Wilson) and Ernest Roth.
She was preceded in death by her husband: John Joseph Schwent.
She is survived by two daughters: Karis Marie Schwent of St. Louis and Kelly Anne Gielow of Eureka; a son: John “J.E.” (Dawn) Schwent of Festus; four grandchildren: Holt Gielow, Brody Gielow, Delaney Gielow and Cayden Schwent; two brothers: Theodore “Ted” (Linda) Roth of Rolla and Edward (Diane) Roth of Summerville, S.C.; a brother-in-law: William J. “Bill” Schwent of Santa Fe, N.M.; and many other family members and friends.
She also was preceded in death by three sisters: Joyce (the late Kenneth) Ott, Vera (the late Bill) Hanneken and Leona (the late Jesse) Boswell; and a brother: David (Luci survives of Lake St. Louis) Roth.
Visitation is scheduled from 4-7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 8, at Vinyard Funeral Home, 616 W. Main St., in Festus. A funeral Mass is scheduled for11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 9, at Our Lady Catholic Church, 1550 St. Mary’s Lane, in Festus, officiated by Father Steve Lian. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Crystal City. Memorials may be made to the Festus Public Library or to a charity of the donor’s choice. Arrangements are under the direction of Vinyard Funeral Home.
