Marjorie Elizabeth Avina, 82, of Crystal City died Jan. 25, 2025, at her home. Ms. Avina was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She was an advocate for people with developmental disabilities. She enjoyed cooking, making quilts and blankets and shopping. Born April 26, 1942, in Festus, she was the daughter of the late Marguerite Hazel (Luhn) and James Wilson Murphy.
She is survived by a daughter: Maranetta (Robert) Linderer of Crystal City; two grandsons: Jonathan Linderer and Benjamin Linderer; five siblings: James Murphy of Festus, Joseph (Kay) Murphy of De Soto, Sharon (the late Randall) Durrence of Florida, Judith (the late Paul) Straussberg of Festus and Carolyn Murphy of Festus; and a sister-in-law: Amanda Murphy of Festus.
She was preceded in death by two brothers: Thomas Murphy and Dennis Murphy.
A memorial Mass is scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 1, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 555 Bailey Road, in Crystal City, officiated by Father Mike Boehm. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Memorials may be made to South County Habilitation Center, 2312 Lemay Ferry Road, in St. Louis, 63125. Arrangements are under the direction of Vinyard Funeral Home in Festus.
