Cayse, Madge

Madge W. Cayse, 92, of Festus died March 29, 2024, at Delmar Gardens South in south St. Louis County. Mrs. Cayse was a retired art teacher for the Fox C-6 School District, a member of the Grace Presbyterian Church in Crystal City and a member of the PEO Chapter FR. She was a longtime soprano for the Grace Presbyterian Church choir. She enjoyed painting, gardening, playing bridge, traveling, reading and visiting her family and friends. Born May 7, 1931, in Elba, Ala., she was the daughter of the late Cassandra L. (Stevenson) and William Oates Windham.

She was preceded in death by her husband: Dr. Robert L. Cayse, DDS.

She is survived by a daughter: Laura (Mark) Vaughan of Oakville; a son: Robert W. (Maria) Cayse of Madison, Ala.; six grandchildren: Brian (Alden) Cayse, Andrew Cayse, Joseph (Emma) Cayse, Adam (Kristin) Ellington, Adriana (Dustin) Hoover and Chase Freeman; four great-grandchildren: Edie Cayse, Stephen Hoover, Adelyn Ellington and another on the way; and a brother: Daniel O. (the late Claire) Windham of Gulf Breeze, Fla.

She also was preceded in death by two sisters: Frances (the late Enman) Joiner and Josephine (the late James) Heard; and a brother: Herbert (the late Jean) Windham.

Visitation is scheduled from 3 p.m. until funeral services at 4 p.m. Thursday, April 4, at Vinyard Funeral Home, 616 W. Main St., in Festus, officiated by the Rev. Vicki Michaels of Grace Presbyterian Church. Burial will be at a later date in Gamel Cemetery in Festus. Memorials may be made to the Grace Presbyterian Church or the Wolfner Talking Book and Braille Library, 600 W. Main St., Jefferson City, 65102. Arrangements are under the direction of Vinyard Funeral Home.
