Lewis Dillard Johnson Jr., 87, of Pevely, formerly of Clarksville, Tenn., died June 1, 2026, at his home. Mr. Johnson served in the Air National Guard, was an active member of and held office for the Clarksville Jaycees and was a member of St. Luke's United Church of Christ in Imperial. He had a successful career in sales and management before becoming the owner of the family business, OM&E (Office Machines and Equipment). A charismatic salesman, he was known for his warmth, humor and ability to connect with people. He loved playing and watching football and golf, barbecuing his famous steaks and spending time with family and friends. He will be remembered for his kindness, sense of humor and love for those close to him. Born Dec. 30, 1938, in Clarksville, Tenn., he was the son of the late Dorothy Sue (Swift) and Lewis Dillard Johnson Sr.
He is survived by his significant other of 23 years: Gail Heckenberg; three children: Auldyn (Jeff) Wessel of Vine Grove, Ky., Lewis (Susan) Johnson III and Elizabeth (Jason) Mayberry, both of Clarksville, Tenn.; two stepchildren: Gregory (Molly) Heckenberg and Emily (Curtis) Crawford, both of St. Louis; 24 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and many other family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by a brother: Robert “Bob” Johnson; and a sister: Beth (late Edward) Allen.
A memorial service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Sunday, June 28, at St. Luke’s United Church of Christ, 6610 St. Luke’s Church Road, in Imperial.
