Leona “Pebbles” Smith, 89, of Herculaneum died Nov. 24, 2025, at Scenic Nursing and Rehabilitation in Herculaneum. Mrs. Smith was a retired relief operator for the Lever Brothers bottling plant in Pagedale. She was a lifelong Baptist and attended the former Allenton Heights Baptist Church. She enjoyed being outside, especially working in her yard, and spending time with family and friends. Born July 27, 1936, in Rison, Ark., she was the daughter of the late Myra (Cash) and Charles Brown Sr.
She was preceded in death by her husband: Paul E. Smith Sr.
She is survived by two sons: Danny (Karen) Smith of Herculaneum and David (Debbie) Smith of Potosi; four grandchildren: Jason (Barbara) Smith, Jody Smith, Jessica (Jon) Krems and Katlin (J.D.) Trefney; and four great-grandchildren: Ethan Smith, Harper Trefney, Barette Trefney and Lincoln Trefney.
She also was preceded in death by four brothers: Charles (the late Gracie) Brown Jr., John (the late Ruby) Brown, Frank (the late Ilsa) Brown and David (the late Doris) Brown; and four sisters: Geneva (the late James) Massey, Carrie (the late Roy) Helton, Charlene (the late Oliver) Brown and Lavern (the late Curtis) Bridges.
Visitation is scheduled from 10 a.m. until a funeral service at noon Friday, Nov. 28, at Vinyard Funeral Home, 616 W. Main St., in Festus, officiated by Pastor Terry Crank. Interment will be in New Masonic Cemetery in Potosi. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 11433 Olde Cabin Road, St. Louis, 63141. Arrangements are under the direction of Vinyard Funeral Home.
