
Lawrence S. “Larry” Bierman, 85, of Columbia, Ill., formerly of Imperial, died Nov. 26, 2023, in Waterloo, Ill. Mr. Bierman, known to many as “Butch,” served in the U.S. Air Force as a corporal. He worked for General Motors and spent the remainder of his career at Union Electric Company (Ameren) as a pipefitter for many years before becoming an electrician. He was a longtime member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Arnold. He was a man of deep faith and will be remembered for his integrity and kindness. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially his vegetable garden and fishing. He was also an avid Cardinals fan and liked to play bingo. Born May 16, 1938, in Murphysboro, Ill., he was the son of the late Clara (Oetjen) and Norbert Bierman.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years: Patricia Bierman; two children: Misti Schneider of Crystal City and Brenda (Larry) Pennock of Waterloo, Ill.; two grandchildren: Jessica (Josh) Range of Arnold and Dalton King of Crystal City; Two great-grandchildren: Myla and Evy Range; a sibling: Marilyn Cox of Tennessee; and many other family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by a sister: Shirley Acton.
Visitation is scheduled for 2 p.m. until a funeral service at 4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 2, at Kutis South County Chapel, 5225 Lemay Ferry Road, in St. Louis, officiated by Pastor Becker. Burial will take place during a private ceremony in The National Cemetery at Jefferson Barracks. Memorials may be made to the Parkinson's Foundation or a charity of the donor’s choice. Arrangements are under the direction of Kutis South County Chapel.
