Ehlmann, Laverne

Laverne Clara (Allersmeyer) Ehlmann, 86, of Mehlville died May 28, 2024, in Arnold. Mrs. Ehlmann was an elementary school teacher, primarily for first grade, for the Fox C-6 School District from 1959-1992. She taught at Antonia Elementary, Clyde Hamrick School near Otto and Seckman Elementary near Imperial. She graduated from New Haven High School in 1955 and received her bachelor’s degree from Southeast Missouri State College in Cape Girardeau in 1959. In her youth she attended the Immanuel United Methodist Church in Senate Grove; as an adult, she attended St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Otto for more than 60 years, of which she was an active member of the choir and ladies’ aid group. She was an active member of the Mehlville Garden Club since 1995, and an active member of the friend’s group for the Jefferson County Library Arnold branch. Born July 31, 1937, in Senate Grove, she was the daughter of the late Luella (Boedecker) and Albert Allersmeyer.

She was preceded in death by her first husband of 32 years: Sherman F. Friedman.

She is survived by her husband of 27 years: Arlie Ehlmann of Mehlville; two children: Vickie (Greg) Dohack of Barnhart and Steve (Marianne) Friedman of Columbia; and two grandchildren: Katherine N. Friedman of Columbia and William S. Friedman of Columbia.

She also was preceded in death by five siblings: Harold Allersmeyer, Ralph Allersmeyer, Elmer Allersmeyer and Marie Nelson; and many family members and friends.

A memorial gathering is scheduled from 11 a.m. until services at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 15, at Kutis South County Chapel, 5255 Lemay Ferry Road, in south St. Louis County. Private burial will be held at a later date at Peaceful Meadows Cemetery in Hillsboro. Memorials may be made to Reading is Fundamental, the Arnold Branch of the Jefferson County Library or the Mehlville Garden Club. Arrangements are under the direction of Kutis South County Chapel.
