Whitener, Larry

Larry Wane Whitener, 71, of Hillsboro died April 27, 2026, at his home after a 13-year battle with Parkinson’s disease. Mr. Whitener served in the U.S. Army from 1971 to 1973, where he was known for his expert marksmanship. He was a skilled general contractor and was known for his work ethic and strong sense of integrity. He was also a freemason with Masonic Lodge 73. He was also known for his quick wit and sense of humor. He will be remembered for his strength, laughter, craftsmanship and, most of all, his love of family. Born Jan. 30, 1955, in St. Louis, he was the son of the late Ronald and Bonnie (Watkins) Whitener.

He is survived by his wife: Virginia (McGee) Whitener of Hillsboro; a daughter, Kerri Whitener (Ryan) Sizemore of Festus; two sisters: Rhonda Kelley of Hillsboro and Patricia Whitener of Greenville, Tenn.; a niece: Kristal Kelley; and nephew: Shawn Kelley; and many other family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by a sister: Christine Gregg.

No services will be held. Arrangements were under the direction of Dietrich-Mothershead Funeral Home in De Soto.
