Joseph A. “Joe" Berry, 89, of St. Louis died Dec. 23, 2025. Mr. Berry was a member of the Air National Guard. His career expanded to owning and operating several businesses, including Echo Express and Charlene Pony Express. Joe devoted more than 50 years to delivering newspapers, until they ceased operation. He most recently worked for Flanagan-White Delivery. He was known for living life with a spirit of integrity, marked by hard work, dependability and kindness. He was also known for his generosity and his ability to share laughter and deliver a well-timed joke. He was passionate about automobiles and driving. He enjoyed attending stock car races, watching NASCAR and Cardinal baseball. He loved day road trips and camping with his family. Born Nov. 15, 1936, in St. Louis, he was the son of the late Gus and Gertrude Berry.
He was preceded in death by his wife: Charlene (Cook) Berry.
He is survived by two children: Laura Jones and JoAnn (Jeff) Preis; two stepsons: Rick and Roger Goldmann; grandchildren: Tricia Gross, Joe, Lisa Strobl and Danielle, Michael, Paul Berry, Sarah Rackovan, Kadie Olenyik and Ricky Goldmann; and many other family members and friends.
He also was preceded in death by a son: Mike; two stepsons: Ronnie and Randy Goldmann; and a sister: Carol Wagner.
Visitation is scheduled from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 7, at John L. Ziegenhein and Sons Funeral Home-South County Chapel, 4830 Lemay Ferry Road, in St. Louis County. Visitation will resume from 10 a.m. until a funeral Mass at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 8, at St. Andrew Catholic Church, 309 Hoffmeister Ave., in St. Louis, followed by interment at Sunset Memorial Park in Affton.
