Joan Catherine Thurman, 92, of Imperial died Jan. 6, 2025, at Mercy Hospital South in St. Louis County. Mrs. Thurman was known for her infectious personality and ability to handle what life threw at her. She will be remembered for being able to turn strangers into friends within minutes. Born Dec. 14, 1932, in Imperial, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Mildred (Alt) Stovesand.
She is survived by her husband of 71 years: Verlon “Burr” Thurman; two sons: Joseph (Susie) Thurman and James Thurman; two grandchildren: Jeffrey Thurman and Laura (Aaron) McAntire; and two great-grandchildren: Millie McAntire and Augie McAntire.
Visitation is scheduled from 10 a.m. until a funeral service at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 23, at Heiligtag-Lang-Fendler Funeral Home, 1081 Jeffco Blvd, in Arnold. Burial will follow in the National Cemetery at Jefferson Barracks. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the Alzheimer’s Association Greater Missouri Chapter. Arrangements are under the direction of Heiligtag-Lang-Fendler Funeral Home.
