James Wilbert “Jim” Simpson, 81, of Hillsboro died May 30, 2024, at Crystal Oaks Nursing Home in Festus. Mr. Simpson graduated from Eureka High School in 1961. Mr. Simpson was employed by Papin Builders for 20 years and was a member of Laborer’s Local 110. He worked for seven years in maintenance at Westwoods Country Club. His final place of employment before retiring for a second time was the Hillsboro R-3 School District. He was a skilled carpenter and home remodeler. He was Christian and enjoyed attending church. He also enjoyed frequenting local Blue Grass events and spending time with family. Born Sept. 30, 1942, in the Rockwoods Reservation in Glencoe, he was the son of the late James M. and Margaret L. (McDaniel) Simpson.
He is survived by his wife: Sharon K. (Bozarth) Simpson, whom he married on July 14, 1962, at the Full Gospel Tabernacle in Times Beach. He also is survived by three children: James L. Simpson, Angela (Daniel) Norris and Amy (Jeff) Perry; six grandchildren: Hannah (Tony) Bedrosian, Vanessa (Cole Gutman) Simpson, Madison Norris, McKaylee (Walker Bourisaw) Norris, Flynn Perry and Gabe Perry; four great-grandchildren: Luca, Edith, Francesca and Everett; a fifth great-grandchild on-the-way; six sisters: Sylvia (Earl) Manley, Leona (the late Charles) Hodges, Christene (Tom) Bush, Teresa Coombs, Noreen (Calvin) Oyan and Brenda (Steve) Miniea; and many other family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by twin sisters: Alveda Simpson and Almeda Shelton.
Visitation is scheduled from 10 a.m. until a celebration of life service at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 15, at Sanctuary Church, 6700 Old State Route 21, in Barnhart, 63012. Memorials may be made to Sanctuary Church of Barnhart. Arrangements are under the direction of Mahn Twin City Chapel in Festus.
