James Allen Schoonover, 90, of Barnhart died Nov. 8, 2023. After Mr. Schoonover retired, he worked at Buchheit. He also was of the Christian faith and will be remembered for his integrity. Born Sept. 13, 1933, in Indiana, he was the son of the late Florence (Zeiter) and Harley Schoonover.
He was preceded in death by two wives: Betty (McKenzie) Schoonover of 28 years and Galena (Lashley) Schoonover of 16 years.
He is survived by seven children: Ellen (Rick) Smith of Barnhart, Pamela Schoonover of Barnhart, James (fiancee Maria) Schoonover Jr. of Carrolton, Texas, Kathy (Jeff) Ade of Hillsboro, Graham (Sheila) Schoonover of Hillsboro, Jamie (Bryan) Powell of Defiance and Kristi (the late Steve) Wake of Barnhart; two siblings: Janet (late Walter) Bennett of Ohio and Ruth (Jerry) Hammond of Ind.; 19 grandchildren: Kim, Angela, Daniel, Amanda, Cori, Robbie, Tim, Rebekah, Alicia, Josh, Liz, Chase, Trevor, Knives, Sammy, Steven, Nicole, Curtis and Kayla; and more than five great-grandchildren.
He also was preceded in death by a sister: June; and a brother: Herb (Sally) Schoonover.
Visitation is scheduled from 10 a.m. until services at noon Friday, Nov. 17, at Kutis Funeral Home, 5255 Lemay Ferry Road, in south St. Louis County, officiated by Kelley Bailey. Burial will be in Shepherd Hills Cemetery in Barnhart. Arrangements are under the direction of Kutis funeral home South County.
