H. Wayne Randl, 79, of Hillsboro died April 13, 2026. Mr. Randl proudly served in the U.S. Air Force. He was a member of Family of Christ Lutheran Church in Imperial, American Legion Post 253 and the Festus-Crystal City Elks 1721. He served for more than 34 years at the Festus Police Department, retiring as detective sergeant. Throughout his career, he was a member of the Major Case Squad of Greater St. Louis for nearly 20 years and contributed to numerous other task forces. He will be remembered for his easygoing spirit, quick wit and his amazing stories.
Born March 15, 1947, in Monette, Ark., he was the son of the late Betty (Branum) and Thomas Jefferson Randl.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years: Laura (Bauer) Randl; three children: Jason (Yoli) Randl of Wentzville, Julia Hoven of Hillsboro and Kristen (Brian) Gaffney of Arnold; two grandchildren: Jack and Emma Hoven; two brothers: James (Cindy) Randl of St. Charles and Joe Randl of Glendale, Ariz.; a sister: Margaret Simms of Glendale, Ariz.; his mother-in-law: Valerie Hirstein of Arnold; and numerous siblings-in-law, nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by three siblings: Robert (the late Margie) Randl, Betty (the late Charles) Grimm and Delta (the late Charles) Twitty; and a sister-in-law: Nancy Randl.
A memorial visitation is scheduled from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, April 29, at Vinyard Funeral Home, 616 W. Main St., in Festus. Services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Thursday, April 30, at the funeral home, officiated by Pastor Jane Brda. Burial with full military honors will follow in the National Cemetery at Jefferson Barracks. Memorials may be made to BackStoppers, Inc. Arrangements are under the direction of Vinyard Funeral Home.
